A new initiative is being developed to link up
health professionals working with people who are homeless, with
their counterparts across the EU. The
European
Federation of National Organisations working with people who
are homeless together with doctors in the Netherlands and the
UK, are working to launch this network in March. Dr. Igor van
Laere, who works with people who are homeless in Amsterdam, has
long believed that there is an important role for such a network
and sees enormous potential for mutual learning and cooperation
in this area. He also believes that there would be interest and
value for health professionals working with people who are
homeless to share and exchange with their European counterparts.
The network will be open to all health professionals from across
Europe, who work with homeless people in a health capacity, or
to people who have a particular interest in this area. The
working language will be English. All disciplines are welcome.
Initially, the network will be an electronic one,
with a newsletter and online forum to develop contact. There
will be a launch at a conference later in the year. The first
issue of the newsletter is expected in March 2007.
