In Particular, Adherence Was Correlated With Virologic Failure in HIV-infected Patients

and MEMS Dosing Data Show Variable Adherence Profiles q8h Rx

Left: A beta distribution describes the distribution of adherence fractions in 35 TID PI patients. Other datasets for QD and BID regimens can be fitted to the same distribution model. Right: Patients with overall adherence rate of 45-55% were selected from our MEMS database, which consisted of a total of 91 patients (PI, n=35, TID; RTI, n=30, TID; RTI, n=26 BID). Dose-taking intervals were categorized according to the number of missed doses per interval, and a cumulative distribution is plotted. Both a one and two-coin model were fit to the data, with no obvious advantage for the two-coin model. Other adherence intervals yielded similar conclusions.
