Committee Mission

The mission of the Committee on Prison Health is to (1) develop a policy statement on the ethical and human rights principles upon which prison healthcare programs should be based; (2) provide prison healthcare staff, applicable government agencies, and prison healthcare advocates with current information on the prevention and management of life-threatening infectious diseases in prison settings; (3) identify prison healthcare management challenges to the physician/patient relationship and develop educational materials to assist physicians in effectively meeting such challenges; and (4) develop and implement replicable demonstration projects that reduce obstacles to timely and appropriate healthcare for the incarcerated.
