Marvin has told numerous contradictory stories on many aspects of
is life including how he got his stage name, and much of what he
claims about his life is somewhat questionable. When asked in a 2003
interview whether he was born in 1947 or 1951] "1951, he replied, " I have
it on my passport and driving license. [I said 1947 in my autobiography]
because I just wanted to maintain a constant lie. I was born in 1951 but see
what a great thing it is, because everybody asks me? And I can keep it up -
I can tell you I was born in 1952. Names and ages piss me off. So I just
continually lie." A possible cause of his memory difficulties may be
his alleged 18 concussions that he claimed when appearing on the
Celebrity Apprentice in May 2011.
In 1967, Marvin left Texas and moved to Los
Angeles where he started working as a bouncer at a nightclub and formed his
first band, Meat Loaf Soul. He later got a job a parking lot attendant when
a man who asked what him did when he wasn’t on the lot. After mentioning
that he was a singer in his spare time, the man suggested he should audition
for the stage musical, Hair. The audition was a success and led a six
month gig starring in Hair in Detroit.
Then came his memorable roles as both Eddie and
Dr. Everett Scott in the stage version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show
. When he first started rehearsals, Marvin claimed that neither he nor
the rest of the cast were aware of the sexual content of the play which was
a long-running hit London .When Tim Curry turned up on stage in
full Frank-N-Furter costume and make-up singing "Sweet Transvestite.
Marvin/Meat Loaf walked out of the rehearsals and refused to do the show,
but was talked into doing one performance to see how it went. When he saw
how much the audience loved the show, he agreed to stay on for the entire
run. The success of the play led to the filming of The Rocky Horror
Picture Show (1975) where he played only Eddie, a decision he has
said he felt was "a huge mistake."
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has taken in
$139,876,41 with an original budget $1,200,000.
Sometime in the 1980's, Marvin
Lee Aday
changed his name to Michael Lee
Aday. Ironically,
Marvin/Michael/Meat Loaf was a vegetarian for 15 years but then decided to
eat meat. His favorite meat is pork chops. However, the only possible
celebratory meal for Marvin's/Michael's/ Meat Loaf's birthday is
meatloaf made with A1 Steak Sauce as a reminder of the TV commercial that he
made in 2009 in conjunction with the product's new slogan "A1 - Makes
beef sing." In his commercial the slogan is "Makes Meat Loaf sing." We
also suggest watching him in his iconic performance in The Rocky Horror
Picture Show. and washing down the meatloaf with a beer, since he once
reminded us that "Rock and roll is about getting free beer and getting
laid."
