Although the opinioned Scottish chef,
restaurateur, and best-selling cookbook author has been awarded a total of 12 Michelin Stars, Gordon Ramsay is
best known as the
star of TV's Hell's Kitchen, The F Word, Ramsay's Kitchen
Nightmares.and Hotel Hell for his uncontrollable temper and cursing.
On the second series of The F Word,
Gordon said, "It's enough to make anyone turn fucking vegetarian, for
God's sake. And I've always sort of knocked vegetarians and vegans for
missing out on the most amazing flavour you can get from meat. But you can
see why so many people change instantly. When he promoted the greater use of
horsemeat, the animal rights group PETA protested by dumping a ton of horse
manure outside Ramsay's restaurant in central London
When Gordon ejected food critic A.
A. Gill along with his date, Joan Collins, from his restaurant, Gill
stated that "Ramsay is a wonderful chef, just a really second-rate human
being." Ramsay admitted in his autobiography that he did not mind if Gill
insulted his food, but a personal insult he was not going to tolerate.
Ramsay has also had confrontations with his kitchen staff, including one
incident that resulted in the pastry chef calling the police.
On a 2007 episode of Kitchen Nightmares,
acid-tongued Gordon berated Joseph Cerniglia, owner of the Campania
Eatery in North Fair Lawn, New Jersey, for incompetence. Gordon predicted that Cerniglia's business would
“swim down the Hudson” was found floating lifelessly in that very
river. In 2010, Cerniglia was found dead in the Hudson River after a
suspected suicide. In July 02 2012 interview with The Wrap, Gordon commented
that " When you get blamed for the sadness and deaths like that—individuals
taking their own lives—it really hurts, because it’s a tragedy. But it’s
also a very selfish thing to do—to jump off a bridge and to leave that
restaurant and your family behind with all the mess. "
One way for Gordon to to improve his image
may be to eat a little humble pie which we could
serve him on his birthday while watching him in his film début in Love's
Kitchen.(2011). Although Gordon
could never eat humble pie when the term refers to refers to admitting
a mistake and and facing the consequences for it, as an adventurous chef, he
may have literally eaten humble pie. In fact, he chose the term for the
title of his 2006 autobiography.
In culinary terms, humble pie
refers to variety of Cornish pasties that originally were made from deer and
boar innards and eaten by the poor in medieval times. In later centuries,
deer, boar, and sometimes beef was used. Humble is an early English term
referring to the entrails (heart, liver, intestines) of animals. |
