Christopher Michael "Chris" Benoit was a Canadian professional wrestler whose tragic life ended when he murdered his 43- year- old wife Nancy and their 7 year-old son, Daniel Christopher Benoit on June 22, 2007 before hanging himself on a weight machine. The probable cause for this triple tragedy can be traced to multiple concussions and steroid abuse, Tests conducted on Benoit's brain at West Virginia University, and results showed that "Benoit's brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient." He was reported to have had an advanced form of dementia, similar to the brains of four retired NFL players who had suffered multiple concussions, sank into depression, and harmed themselves or others. Prior to the murder–suicide, Chris had been given illegal steroids not in compliance with WWE's Talent Wellness Program in February 2006. Benoit received nandrolone and anastrozole. World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) issued a strongly worded statement condemning media speculation that steroids had anything to do with the homicides and suicide.. Unfortunately it was and still is a wide-spread practice that athletes of all kinds take anabolic steroids to increase muscle mass and improve performance. Chris worked for several major promotions, including Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and held a total of thirty-two championships during his professional wrestling career. Cgris is a record-tying five-time WCW/WWE United States Champion, having held the championship twice in WCW, and three times in WWE; and a two-time world champion: a one-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and one-time World Heavyweight Champion (tied for third longest reign in history), with both reigns represented by the Big Gold Belt. In 1989, Chris started wearing a mask and assuming the name "The Pegasus Kid" .and said numerous times that he originally hated the mask, but it eventually became a part of him. Since his Pegasus Kid days were some of his happiest times, let's remember Chris's birthday by recalling those sweeter days with a serving a Kentucky Pegasus Pie. Kentucky
